Pupil Premium
What is Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium is additional government funding provided to schools to improve the educational outcomes of disadvantaged pupils. It is intended to help reduce any attainment gaps between disadvantaged pupils and their peers and to support schools in raising standards for all pupils.
Who is eligible?
Pupil Premium funding is allocated to schools based on the number of pupils who meet one or more of the criteria below.
Pupils eligible for free school meals (FSM)
Schools receive funding for pupils who are recorded as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last six years (referred to as Ever 6 FSM):
- £1,515 for pupils in Reception to Year 6
- £1,075 for pupils in Year 7 to Year 11
Previously looked-after children
Schools also receive funding for pupils who have left local-authority care as a result of:
- Adoption
- A special guardianship order
- A child arrangements order
- A residence order
For these pupils, schools receive £2,630 per pupil.
Where a pupil meets both the Ever 6 FSM criteria and the previously looked-after criteria, funding is allocated at the higher previously looked-after rate.
What do I do if I think my child may be eligible for it?
If you think your child is eligible please speak to a member of the office.
How is it spent?
Schools are able to decide how to best invest this money to support disadvantaged pupils within their school, however schools must report how the money is spent to stakeholders, including Governors and parents.
How are we spending our money?
Our Pupil Premium Strategy Statement for the current academic year can be accessed using the link below.

- The challenges we face in achieving those intentions
- Our intended outcomes - how we will know if our strategy is successful
- The activities we are using the pupil premium to fund, and the evidence that supports each approach reasoning behind why we are spending our money
The statement also reviews the impact of our previous strategy. This review informs our current approach.
